On December 7th, 2019, our team took on the challenge of setting up a booth at the De Anza College (DASB) Flea Market, a flea market held by the students with goals to raise money for the student body. For over forty years, it has been a monthly established community event with vendors and patrons coming from all over the state. We were honored to have stumbled upon the opportunity to share some products and our mission to a larger audience. The day started with a windy rain storm. Feelings of excitement, anxiety and confusion overtook the team, as we tried to set up our booth at 7AM. It was an understatement to say we were slightly discouraged, and realizing how underprepared we were against the storm, our director gave us a way out. Not wanting the team to catch a cold in the winter storm, she said, “it is okay if we just want to pack up and go home.” The team, however, would not take such an early defeat. We persisted with setting up a tent against the wind, and we had nearby experienced vendors support us with anchoring down our tents and words of encouragement. In the end, our persistence led to success. We made numerous sales and were able to talk with many people about our mission.
Had we given up at 7:30 AM and just gone home, we would not have been able to connect with customers and people who believed in our mission. The DASB Flea Market really was the perfect opportunity for everyone on the team to learn and flourish as individuals striving to create a brighter world. With that, we just want to say Jezuba (thank you) and that we hope to be able to continue our journey with your support! Lauren Young & Lavender Chen Content Strategy Interns |
